Overdose Awareness and Second Chances

Field of Hope hosted Ohio Overdose Awareness Day: Change the Conversation in Gallia County on August 31, 2022. The goal of the day was to bring awareness and education on overdose prevention and second chances. Thanks to the Gallia County Health Department, we were able to hand out 47 doses of Narcan. There were also some amazing stories of recovery, faith and community.

Butterflies symbolize remembrance for lost loved ones and hope for those who are still struggling in addiction.

As we closed out the event, everyone was invited to release a butterfly 🦋. Butterflies symbolize remembrance for lost loved ones and hope for those who are still struggling in addiction. You can watch the video of the release here.

Butterflies represent change and freedom

Some of these amazing stories we heard were only able to be told because someone was there to administer a Narcan dose. In an August news release from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s office’s, it was announced that as part of this year’s observance, RecoveryOhio today announced the creation of Naloxone.Ohio.gov, a new resource that provides Ohioans with a simplified process for obtaining free naloxone, a life-saving drug used to reverse an opioid overdose. The new website makes requesting naloxone as seamless as possible for all Ohioans, whether they are a first responder, community member, or distribution site, and enhances access to prevention and treatment information. A report from the Ohio Department of Health, lists Gallia County ranking third in the number of unintentional overdose deaths. We appreciate the recognition that Governor DeWine’s office has shown on this fight. Narcan can save a life. You can reach out to the Gallia County Health Department or Recovery Ohio to carry Narcan and maybe save the life of someone close to you.

Thank you to everyone who came out and shared their stories. There were some amazing testimonies of recovery that we hope will inspire you to reach out and remember there is always hope.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
